On July 13, 2026, the legendary Max and Iggor Cavalera performed in Sofia as part of the "Chaos A.D. MMXXVI" tour, dedicated to one of the most influential albums in thrash metal history – Sepultura's Chaos A.D. The concert took place at Club "Maymunarnika" and gathered hundreds of fans who came to hear the classic album performed almost in its entirety.
The evening began with the Bulgarian band This Burning Day, who managed to warm up the audience with an energetic performance. Formed in 2011, the Sofia-based band is among the established names on the modern Bulgarian metal scene. Their style combines metalcore, djent and alternative metal, and over the years they have played at festivals such as Spirit of Burgas, Hills of Rock and September Sun. In 2023, they released their debut album Our Heart, and their music also appears in the film Death Race 4: Beyond Anarchy. A notable detail from the post-concert comments is that, according to many attendees, the sound during This Burning Day's performance was better than that of the headliners.
Shortly after 9:00 PM, Cavalera took the stage and opened with the iconic "Refuse/Resist", then led the audience through the classics from Chaos A.D.
Released in 1993, Chaos A.D. is considered one of the most influential thrash metal albums of all time. With it, Sepultura definitively established themselves among the biggest names in world metal, and songs like "Refuse/Resist", "Territory" and "Propaganda" remain an integral part of the band's live setlists and those of the Cavalera brothers to this day.
According to the report by "24 Chasa", the band was in excellent form – Max Cavalera demonstrated his characteristic energy, Iggor Cavalera impressed behind the drums, and the other musicians complemented the band's strong stage presence.
Unfortunately, instead of the concert being remembered solely for the music, a large part of the post-event comments focused on serious organizational and technical issues.
According to dozens of fans in attendance, the doors were opened late, and the program also started later than the previously announced time, with no official information provided to those waiting.
The sound quality received the most criticism. Many people described the sound as unbalanced – with excessively loud bass, muffled guitars, and Max Cavalera's vocals being difficult to hear. Some even shared that they had trouble recognizing songs they had known by heart for decades.
Additional tension was caused by three power outages during the concert. This is no longer just an impression of the fans, but a fact confirmed by the media. According to the publication of "24 Chasa", the interruptions were brief and the audience kept the atmosphere with phones and lighters, while according to the WeRock report, these technical problems prevented the show from reaching its full potential.
On social media, however, the reactions are significantly more critical. Fans described the event as one of the weakest technical setups for a major metal concert in Bulgaria in recent years. One attendee commented that he knew the songs by heart but at times had difficulty understanding which composition was playing due to the poor mix. Others pointed out that after each power cut, the sound quality deteriorated even further, and the song "The Hunt" was dropped from the setlist.
Particularly telling is the comment from a fan who traveled especially from Poland for the concert. He described the experience as disappointing due to the poor sound, disappearing vocals and three power outages, explicitly emphasizing that the band was not to blame for what happened.
Among the Bulgarian fans, a similar opinion prevails: "Good thing Cavalera are giants", "Maymunarnika totally messed up", "The sound of the opening band was better than Cavalera's" – these are just some of the numerous post-concert reactions.
Despite the differing assessments of the organization, one thing unites both journalists and fans – Cavalera themselves gave their all. Even the most critical comments were directed not at the musicians, but at the technical support of the event.
At the time of publication, the organizers and Club "Maymunarnika" had not issued an official statement regarding the power outages and complaints about the sound.
The concert in Sofia undoubtedly gave Bulgarian fans the opportunity to hear live one of the greatest thrash metal albums, performed by its creators. Unfortunately, instead of being remembered solely for the power of Chaos A.D., the evening will also go down in history for the technical problems that overshadowed the otherwise strong performance of the legendary brothers Max and Iggor Cavalera.
